Existing hospital rating systems, such as U.S. News and Medicare's 5-star rating, do not factor in a hospital's price quality or billing practices. We want to help fill that gap so patients can make more informed decisions when choosing where to go for care. At this stage, we compare emergency room prices for each hospital.

How We Calculate Hospital Prices
We use public hospital price transparency data published on each hospital's website and compare those prices against Medicare rates from the CMS Outpatient Prospective Payment System Addendum B facility payment rates. Currently, the Medicare benchmark we use is the national unadjusted rate.
