My Story

Like most people in the U.S., I used to trust that healthcare providers were honest and that medical bills were accurate. As a busy mom of two, I would simply pay whatever bill arrived in the mail without questioning it. I believed the system was fair and transparent.

That all changed over the past two years, especially in 2024.

It was an eye-opening journey through the broken billing system:

  • Delivery Bill Surprise: After paying my second baby's delivery bill in full, I received an "updated" bill in early 2025 claiming I still owed money for the same service. I called the insurance about it, they said the hospital claimed the money I paid wasn't enough. This was from a non-profit public hospital.
  • Duplicate Charges: Billed for my second baby's postpartum checkup despite knowing from my first baby that insurance covers this completely - and my EOB confirmed they had already paid. This was the same non-profit hospital.
  • Dental Office "System Error": After paying over a thousand dollars for a service at their front desk, they emailed me a month later claiming I still owed several hundred in remaining balance. It took multiple challenges before they admitted it was their "mistake".
  • Surprise Refund: Only after challenging my dental bills did they "discover" they owed me money from insurance claims - money they never mentioned before.
  • Orthodontist Contract Deception: Quoted 12-18 months for Invisalign, put 18 months in the contract, finished in 12 months, but refused to refund the difference because the contract said they won't refund if the treatment ends early. Yet the same contract stated I'd pay extra if treatment took longer.

Each challenge revealed more problems. I realized this isn't just my experience—it's happening to millions of families who pay without question because fighting seems too complex and time-consuming.
